Hi everyone,

I am modeling a shoring system consisting of soldier piles and walers in RISA3D. My question is about some connections between a pile (column) and a waler (beam). As shown in the attached image, the waler and pile are next to each other (kind of overlapping) and not a center-to-center connection. They want a connection where waler and pile overlap and no moment can be transferred between waler and pile. So I was wondering how I can model this connection in RISA3D.

Thank you for your suggestions and responses.

I've always idealized these connections as pinned. I'm not sure if I'm missing your question, but there should be a way to release whatever moment you're finding is transferring through the connection. If desperate, I've previously put a gap between two members and connected them with rigid link that is fixed to one member and pinned to the other. That usually eliminates any moment transfer.

Actually, you're right. I tried a rigid link (one end fixed and the other end pinned) and it works perfectly. Also, I asked this RISA support team and they responded with the same solution.
