What would be acceptable "industry standards" for insulating condensate drains in unconditioned spaces (like in ceilings of houses in warm places like Sydney Aust) for air cooled split conditioners.

I'm guessing first 2 meters for PVC and first 5 meters for copper.

Clarification greatly appreciated.

Recommend you install insulation around the the condensate drain for the total length in the ceiling. If the drain is insulated, the condensate won't warm up much, therefore the drain will just condensate where the insulation ends.

Pan and drain should all be insulated in interior spaces.

Yep, I have never observed any uninsulated condensate pans or piping indoors.

Good on ya,

DRWeig - I have seen uninsulated condensate & chilled water piping indoors, but the people with offices below said piping were not so thrilled with that value engineering decision.

Good one, flukeynub. [flip]

Almost all of my work these days is in older buildings. I guess the value engineering has been rectified by the time I get there...

Good on ya,
