Which is why we gave you 4 different methods of controlling this behavior:
1) Customer Defaults (as already described).
2) Sketch Preferences, which will set this behavior for all future Sketches created in that particular part file.
3) Sketch Style, which is a sort of Preference but which ONLY effects the current active Sketch.
4) And the normal option of toggling ON/OFF the Auto Dimension Icon (which is really just a duplicate of #3 above).
However, we will admit, but NOT apologize for, the fact that out-of-the-box, this is turned ON by default.
Our philosophy here, and in virtually all other cases, is to turn ON by default any new options and/or behaviors which we've added to NX. The rational being that if you happen to really NOT like something we've done, you will take the time to find out how to turn it OFF. However, if you are not aware that we have added something new and it's not enabled, virtually NO ONE will stop to learn how to turn it ON, even if we document it in the What's New guide or the User Helps files. That's just human nature, pure and simple, therefore we have no choice but to take the approach which we have.
