Hi,

I am trying to make sure that our control room is a tidy and ordered as possible. For that I would like to set up a few basic rules, such as no mobiles phones, restricted access etc.
I was wondering if anyone has a set of rules from other control rooms.

thanks

This has nothing to do with tidyness and order, but some control rooms ban the use of 2-way radios.

Others I have been in made you check all your PPE at the door rather than shedding it inside the control room and leaving it laying about. And some of it could snag knobs and levers, but that was in a time long ago and a land far away.

Flinana,

Have you asked the control room operators what they'd like? Get them to agree the rules between themselves, perhaps with an outside person to provide a sanity check. Rules can be somewhat context sensitive, using RMW's examples, our operators wear overalls pretty much all day as theirs is a combined inside/outside rule, and use 2-way radios to talk between control room and plant.

I'd start looking at what stops things being tidy. Are the drawings stored within arms reach? How about operating procedures?

thank you all, we do have operating procedures. What makes the room untidy is that some of them are untidy.
Main thing is that they drink and eat in control room and to me that cannot be acceptable. I agreed to bottled water but not eating chips or anything like that. For that they have an area where they can go and eat.

I am was operation supervisor, Ask operator to clean control room before change shift and forman or lead operator is resposible to maintain control room and plant area clean

"Ask operator to clean control room before change shift and forman or lead operator is resposible to maintain control room and plant area clean". This is old stuff!! you can use overshoes as well. This is common practice for refineries and oil platforms here in Azerbaijan. It works when people in coveralls enters control room constantly but waste should be concidered also.Eating and drinking should be prohibited in control room. Do remember about slip, trip and fall.

btw, anyone has tests or exams for operators of a steam turbine power plsnt plant?
