Copper seal with stainless steel pipe 2

Hello.

I designed methanol dozen station, MOC - 316SS. So I used copper seal in gauge (pressure gauge, for example) place connection (flat type seal) like always.
So, customer checked station's draws and other documentation and said, that using copper seal is not acceptebale.
Now I have a question - why? I know, if I use carbon steel (without coating) with copper I have corrosion. But SS and copper have no problem with it.

It's a good question for the Owner who rejected your design.
What's the process, i.e. fluid, P&T, etc., the seal to be contacted with?

Methanol is slightly corrosive to copper, so long term compatibility is a problem. 316 SS is a better choice.

Galvanic corrosion would take place between SS and the copper seal.

Simple methanol pumping:

[li]suction pressure - atm;[/li]
[li]discharge - 10 MPa;[/li]
[li]climate-marine.[/li]

Your application sounds a lot like the BSPP gauge thread that uses a copper washer at the bottom of the port. Consider using a different system to avoid this trouble if you're building new components.

Usually we use metric thread on gauge.
