In 'Abaqus 6.13',
It is possible to insert a new step after initial. The step-1 can be editted to change the incrementation size, etc..
1-I would like to know which type I need to use when I create 'step-1' in order to study the coupling 'crack propagation/temperature' in a pipe ?
2-Is it appropriate to study a propagating crack with the type 'static, general' in step-1 ?
Thanks.

When using “dynamic/Temp-disp, Explicit”, I cannot select the feature PHILSM in Failure/Fracture in Field Output request. This feature is available with static/general. PHILSM is used to visualise the propagation of the front crack.

I obtain the following error message:
The following history output requests are applied to XFEM cracks which are not stationary XFEM cracks:
H-Output-1
The Input file was not generated, and the job was not submitted for analysis

If I setup the model with Step-1>Static/General, and then replace ‘Static/General’ by ‘dynamic/Temp-disp, Explicit’ in Step-1, I get the following message at the end of the run:
ERROR: THIS KEYWORD IS NOT AVAILBLE IN Abaqus/Explicit
LINE IMAGE: *enrichment, name=CRACK-1, type+PROPAGATIONCRACK,
Elset=ASSEMBLY_PICKEDSET6

Is it possible to create a dynamic crack using XFEM ?

See Abaqus Users Manual 10.7.1 Modeling discontinuities as an enriched feature using the extended finite element method

Manual said:
Modeling discontinuities, such as cracks, as an enriched feature:
:
- can be performed using the static procedure, the implicit dynamic procedure, the low-cycle fatigue analysis using the direct cyclic approach, the geostatic stress field procedure or coupled pore fluid diffusion/stress analysis
:

When we study the propagation of a XFEM crack (with the procedure 'static/general' or 'dynamic implicit') using a predefined field>temperature, will the temperature have an impact on the crack behaviour (i.e. is there a coupling crack/temperature) ?

You will get thermal expansion when you've defined this material behavior and you can make material data and other properties temperature dependent.
