I'm preparing to wire up a WEG small 110V 1.5 HP single phase capacitor start motor, and need to pick up some Male & Female insulated spade connectors. I chose to use these as space in the motor end cavity is very limited. The wires in the motor are 14 Ga. stranded copper. The AC line in comes from a standard orange 16/3 extension cord. There are 2 other wires (red & black) that appear to be 18 Ga.
The wiring diagram shows making two 3-wire connections. What size crimp connector do I need to get 3 wires twisted into it?
Also, I don't see direction of rotation indicated on the motor. What do I change if I need it to be reversed? This is just driving a large 40" drum fan with a V-belt. Motor turns 3450 rpm with a 2" pulley to a 9" pulley on the fan shaft. Big airflow!
Your thoughts?

First, change out the 16/3 for a 12/3.
# 16 AWG is less than 1/2 of the cross sectional area that you need.
Second, more than one wire in a spade connector is a code and approvals violation and poor work practice.

Also, at 110V the motor draws >17A, you will need a 20A dedicated circuit for it, it will NOT be able to be plugged into a standard 15A receptacle circuit. The limit for a standard 15A circuit is about 3/4HP

And that 20 Amp dedicated circuit may be protected by a 40 Amp breaker.
And if the fan and motor are permanently mounted, the extension cord is unacceptable.
It may be time to hire a professional.

The fan is not permanently mounted. It is placed where cooling is needed. What is correct connection for all the wiring inside the motor cavity? Within such a limited space, room for connecting hardware is at a premium. It's really gonna be stuffed in tight. Add to that the diameter of 12/3 upgrade. According to the wiring label, I don't see how you can avoid having multi-wire connections.

Try ring lugs and small bolts.
Under Canadian rules a 1.5 HP motor needs a suitable motor controller.
What say the NEC?
You probably need a 30 Amp receptacle and plug.
It should not be interchangeable with the plug for your electric clothes drier.

Agreed with the above comments. To reverse rotation switch T5 and T8.
