Dear all,

We are executing a contract for provision of 10 MLD STP based on Sequencing Batch Reactor Technology for a Smart City wherein ( CONTRACT AGREEMENT)it is clearly specified that an EQUALISATION TANK will also be provided by the contractor.
But based on psra 5.6.3 FLOW EQUALISATION of COHEEO MANUAL ON SEWERAGE & SEWAGE TREATMENT ,since peak factor is less than 3.0 the contractor has put his foot down saying that he need not provide the Equalisation Tank.
Para 5.6.3 states:
" However when the peak factor exceeds 3.0 by a wide margin, it is advisable to equalize the sewage flow before feeding to the STP UNITS."

My argument is --+let the contractor measure the inflow at 1 hour interval for 24 hours and prepare a MASS FLOW DIAGRAM to determine the capacity of the Equalisation/ Collection tank to cater for 10 MLD STP.This will facilitate in knowing if any storage tank of raw sewage for running a 10 MLD STP PLANT continuously for 24 hours is required or not.
Am I correct or not?

Please enlighten me.
With regards,

Mayor Kumar

You have to decide what takes preceent but if the contract requires an Equalisation basin then I would say a basin is required to be built.

SBRs are often chosen because if they are sized correctly to cater for the paek flow then equalisation basins are not required. However this will mean building a bigger SBR.
