Hello everyone! I have a crosstie with 180 degree hook at both ends, is it allowed based on ACI? all i know it stated on the ACI like this one :

25.3.5 Crossties shall be in accordance with (a) through (e):
(a) Crosstie shall be continuous between ends
(b) There shall be a seismic hook at one end
(c) There shall be a standard hook at other end with
minimum bend of 90 degrees
(d) Hooks shall engage peripheral longitudinal bars
(e) 90-degree hooks of two successive crossties engaging
the same longitudinal bars shall be alternated end for end,
unless crossties satisfy 18.6.4.3 or 25.7.1.6.1

Thankyou! [bigsmile]

25.3.5 defines the minium requirements and item

(c) There shall be a standard hook at other end with
minimum bend of 90 degrees

If you provide a crosstie with 180 degree hooks at both ends, this will be more than enough. But the iron workers at site may have constructibility issues.

He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock..

I'm not certain about ACI 318 (I suspect it is the same rule as in AS 3600) - but any bar with a 90 degree bend can't be counted as shear reinforcement. It is only effective in restraining the longitudinal reinforcement. The double-180 hooked bars will do both jobs. They are slightly harder to install supposedly but I've never had any pushback when specifying them.
