Continued from Potential Disaster in the Making.
Definitely fulfilling every bit of its potential.
This is probably the worst disaster, excluding loss of life events, to hit Spain in a very long time. Nobody has died, but many lost a lifetime. Buried. Gone.

At least one bit of good news here.

Surprise Development!

This sign was discovered this morning.

Strength to La Palma! The dogs are fine!
signed: "A-team".

The A-Team has rescued the dogs trapped by the lava. Frustrated by the lack of action on the part of the authorities in approving the much anticipated air rescue attempt, The "A-Team", a group of animal activists took matters into their own hands. Apparently they mounted a covert operation sometime on Tuesday night and successfully slipped in past the police and around the roadblocks to rescue the dogs. The identity of the A Team agents and the present location of the dogs is being held secret, so as they cannot be prosecuted for violation of the security rules.

This story cannot yet be verified, but we hope it is true and that the dogs have indeed been rescued.

It is unusual for sure. A neighbour, Rafa Muñoz, took the shot when on his way to work.
I'll tell him you all liked it. (I should have credited the picture)

Yes it was :)

Island called Vulcano
That is why we call them volcanos, cuz that was the one first written about, in Latin, on an island called Vulcan or Vulcano in Italian.

Thanks for the background...

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?

And I guess that the island got it's name from Vulcanus who was the god of fire and forging in Roman mythology, the son of Jupiter and Juno and married to the goddess Venus.
If not it's a pretty good guess though. ;-)

Two days without significant quakes and very low SO2 emissions may indicate its finally brain dead. The vulcanologists will wait 8 more days before declaring its over.

Maybe a nice Christmas eve present then. :)

We do indeed wish it to be true, but personally i don't think the volcano is listening to what they say. They said it looked like it could be finished last week, just before it rocked out a few good 5.0 quakes, recessitated itself and promptly took out another 150 buildings on what today looks like it might have been its last gasp. So as they say, I'll wait for the fat lady to sing before I call it.

So any pics of the dogs?
I thought the Canaries were named after the dogs after all.

Politicians like to panic, they need activity. It is their substitute for achievement.

Flag of the Canarias. Seven islands named after dogs. Not canaries.

Is 'Canarias' Spanish for some form of 'Dog'? The name Canaries is prettier than Dogs.

It is said it's Latin for The dog isles.
What the Europeans called them since there was large dogs there.
But it's a bit hmm I don't know..
Latin for dog is "canis" but Latin for "to be sung" is "canari" so not sure what's the hen and wat's the egg here. [ponder]
