Dear all,

I need your help. There are several curved tubes which are located in the water drum (mud drum) of a boiler. I don’t have the drawing, I only have the picture. If someone over here have worked with this type of boiler, could you please tell me the functions of those curved tubes? The picture is attached.

Thanks and regards

Aida

aida2011 Two questions for you.

Do you have downcomers below the mud drum?

Do these downcomers end up in a ring header from which the water wall tubes rise up the boiler?

First off, what type of boiler is this? These are not downcomers. Typically, downcomers are nozzles located along the length of the drum to supply feedwater to the mud drum or ring header.

Since you indicated a mud drum, these curved tubes could be "blowdown" tubes for the removal of deposits and to reduce levels of contaminants.

Mr. Metengr

The boilermaker is "Vickers Hoskins", it's a local Malaysian company. Many people suspect those tubes originated from heated downcomers.

Dear Mr Dhurjati

Yes there are downcomers at the water wall headers but no downcomers below the mud drum.

We are closer to an answer. But first things first.

Which side is the furnace box? Is it towards those tubes?
