Custom Symbols? 6

I know that in other drawing packages there are ways to create custom symbols and add them to the general library. Is this possible in SW? If so, how? If not, what is/are the best option/s to insert a custom symbol into a text field?

Currently, I have simply sketched the symbol and must move/resize the symbol to fit the text field of each print that I am creating... Just looking for a better way, if possible.

You mean other than the ones available in the "Add Symbol" option of the Note Manager? (The button with the CL+)

Look in SW Help under "BLOCKS".

Have you read faq731-376 to make the best use of Eng-Tips Forums?

Look in the SolidWorks help for Annotation Blocks, it is explained in depth.

Thanks all! I'll give these a try.

The problem with homespun custom symbols is that they can not be embedded into SW files. They reside in a separate ".sldsym" file. If another user does not have the same symbol file, he will not see the custom symbol.

TheTick,
Does this mean that if we do a “File, Find References” on a drawing, then send someone outside the company all files put into a new folder, they will not see our blocks we created?

Haven't tried. Sounds like a good experiment for someone to perform. I hope that someone posts results here.

Airmack ... Check out the following FAQ ... but be careful ... the ink is still wet. [lol]

I did a “File, Find References” on a drawing, then brought it home. I made sure that I did not have any blocks linked to SolidWorks. The drawing with some blocks on it showed the blocks during opening.

CorBlimeyLimey,
Nice job on your FAQ.
