The joists though are made of wood!

The other thread seems to have disappeared though for some reason.

Hence why their failure was accompanied by lots of creaking.

If you look at some of the photos in the Czech site
there are lots of photos, you can clearly see that the main failure point is where the bottom beam has been presumably glued together in a tooth like connection.

Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.
 
I played it without sound. My bad! I thought it was steel with an intumescent coating.
 
Looks like they all broke in the same place, possibly a splice joint?
