Dear abaqus users,
In terms of damage progression in abaqus/standard, do we need a predefined path? Thanks.

Regards,
Vicky

Hi vicky,
i guess you want to model crack propogation. If you deal with isotropic Material model and under unidirectional testing you can do that and this the easiest failure creteria. How everything, if you are dealing with composites original nonhemogenous Material your intrest is to find how and in which direction the crack propegates. I how this help.

If you are using XFEM in Abaqus then you need to have an idea of where the crack will form so you can enrich that area. To do that run the model with no XFEM elements and look for the areas of highest Von Mises Stress and enrich those elements for the XFEM run.

If you are looking at just damage then as long as your material models contain failure and damage evolution criteria you dont need to predefine the path.

Thank you for your responses. I defined the damage criterion in the UMAT and once the damage occurred the stiffness of reduced to a nearly zero value. It seems that due to the small stiffness the damage element will have large distortion and causing problem of the calculation. DO you guys know what should I do?

Hallo,
Please ready about element revol Priesters which can be Found.the in dynamic analysis in abaqus.

Thanks Iimoko,
Any idea about solution in static analysis in abaqus?
