40'x6'deck supported by a ledger on one side and a (2)2x10 beam on the other. The beam would be bolted to 6"x6" posts at 10 ft O.C.

Any recommendations on how to connect two beams at the same post or how to splice the beamas would be appreciated.

Might try checking out Simpson's header Hangers. Say a HH4 Hanger. Vertical Capacity = 1195 lbs.

Or any of numerous Simpson face mounted hangers.

See Simpson Catalog C-2007.

Put beams 6" apart and attach with through carriage bolts, (top of beam =top of post). Use space between beams for diagonals in 40' direction.

Thanks "Civilperson"

The posts are continous that also support the canopy above but they can be cut and modified. When the beam is continous at the post location or at teh last post, there is no problem bolting them together. The problem would be at the beam splice. If spliced at the post locations the bolt edge distance would only be 1 3/8".

I am leaning towards face mounted hangers per "lkjh345".

Or just do a side notch like this (top view) and put bolt it together
