What do you find the best post base is for decks? Using 4x4 posts. Im leaning to post anchored, that way they dont mess that up.

Uplift is negligible, but some resistance wanted. Also would want some shear resistance.

ABA's are most common and usually available at your local Home Cheapo. I use ABU's where I need stainless finish. Very easy to get both and easy to install. Set them, put the anchor bolt in, put post, nail/bolt. E Z
 
Phil, that's a prescriptive guide, I dont see anything in the code saying I cant use a 4x4??

 
None of Simpson's base plates are rated for shear except the embedded ones (I believe).
That said, I count on them anyway to react my bracing loads as the demand is usually low and the gravity loads will offer up some friction.
