I have a seam crack in the middle of my material in x-axis direction. I am applying a compressive load in y at the center. I want the top surface of the crack to bend with the bottom surface without using interaction since it doesn't give me the required result. can anyone tell me what mistake am i doing. Why doesn't the top surface of the crack bend with the bottom surface and It penetrates with each other.

Thank you

Depending on the length of the crack I'd expect the top and bottom surfaces to be largely independent of each other, unless there was contact between the two.

Thank you for the reply corus.

My crack length is 1/4 th the size of the beam. So how do you propose I model. Do I need to put a constraint between the surfaces if I do that the results I am getting are way off. How do you think I need to model to make my top and bottom surface of the crack to bend without penetrating each other. I have defined my crack as a seam.

Thank you

Use contact between the two surfaces using some value for friction.
