Design of a portable metal frame (small studio)

Hello everyone,

I want to design and build a small studio 2.80x7.5m, made by steel frame that can be lifted by crane and transported by a trailer.

I want the components to be from strong sections, not like the sections used to build the usual portal cabins.

I have not yet decided on the type of envelope/walls to use. I am thinking either insulated metal panels, structural insulated panels or the traditional metal stud wall, but anyway this can be covered in another posts.

My main reasons for starting this thread is for the metal frame, i am thinking either steel square tubes or H/I beams and columns. The main structure is shown below. The other reason is for what type of joints to use. I am thinking of something clever and custom like a 3-way connection tube (shown below) for the floor/roof corner joints where the column is connected to the beams.

Anyone has experience in this type of structures?

If you're not going to dismantle, why not welded connections. Those Rubin cubes don't look like they'd take kindly to lifting the frame and remaining straight after set down.
Are those welded stud bolts? Looks complicated to tighten, but the other ends of the bolt are not shown.

Box shapes are easier to paint and stronger in both directions and in torsion, but choice depends more on loading conditions.

Raise the floor stringers to same top of steel as the framing beams?

kellez,

If this is a studio, it requires walls, right? It also looks to me like you need to minimise weight. I suggest you look into composite panels. Use the walls as your primary structure. A light, not very structure frame will give you something to attach walls to.

Maybe just get a box trailer?

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

The corner connection detail with bolts seems not reasonable.. You may use welded connections at least for floor and roof horizontal frames..

Apparently you do not want modular portal cabins ..But still you may look to the connection detais..Just write PREFABRICATED MODULAR BUILDING DETAILS and search the web,

Some of the possible outcomes,

Thank you everyone for your replies. I have decided that i need to further proceed with the 3d design that i have in my mind and post it again here so that the discussion is more specific.

This is a frame that needs a lot of detailing therefore i will proceed with that and get back to you.
