I am working on a design table with 150+ columns and 550 rows, and I keep getting this error MICROSOFT EXCEL IS WAITING FOR ANOTHER APPLICATION TO COMPLETE AN OLE ACTION. I accept the error, then excel waits about a minute, then gives me the same error, this happens about seven times, then it finally closes the design table. If I switch to Solidworks it is not waiting for a response there is nothing else going on there. Its just this process that I have to go through evertime I open the design table. If I make any changes to the design table they are showing up in the model.

Please Help,

Kim

You may be reaching the limits of the Excel OLE. This has been discussed in thread559-19802.

Stoker,
Thank you for your suggestion, I am aware of the limit for columns in excel, I only have 150 columns, excels limit is 255.

That's true but when using Excel in SW there is an OLE Limitation. This is an MS problem and not a SW issue. Your only limited to so many columns in SW. You will need to make your Text font smaller per column to get more viewable columns.

Scott,

Can you elaborate on that? How is that relevant to a design table that creates configurations of parts?

Thanks

Kim

My bad! I was thinking about you viewing a table in drawing and not a DT....this is what I get for being out of the loop for a while.

The Error your getting is because Windows hasn't closed it yet...if you continue to click the OK button it will eventaully close Excel....this still an MS issue and there isn't much of a fix for it that I'm aware of.

Plus with 550 rows and 150+ columns (I assume they are all active)....that is a LOT of data that SW has to process. That equals about 82,500 cells that SW has to write data in the model. I can see where this can be a bottle neck for you. Windows is probably trying to close Excel like you told it to, but since you have so much data go in to the model. SW stops Excel from closing till all data can be transferred to SW.

Have you ever got the error on your email. When your trying to access it and it keeps looking for it and then it asks you if you want to "Wait" or do you want it to "Stop"?

This error is the same thing....I hope you followed all of that.

How do you open the DT....in a separate window or within SW?

Sorry for the confusion, Scott Baugh, CSWP [spin] [americanflag]

In a seperate window, otherwise its a pain to create the DT.
