Details for joint in moment resisting frame

Dear all

If I have moment resisting frame,subjected to earthquake,I need the actual site details for column beam connection in case if the column is not resisting earthquake , or what should I do in site to make as much as possible this frame not acting in moment resisting frame,

You may try to clarify your question so no one is guessing.

Is it the following, you have a moment resisting frame, you want a detail for connecting an intermediate column that will not effect your moment frame?


Why would you put in a column but not use it to shorten the dimensions of the moment frame? seems like a waste of a column.

i think you could use a cap plate connection, release the top of the column in your FE model and make the beam continuous.

But just out of curuoisty , whu would you want to do that, as jayrod12 said: this seems like a waste of a column.

Hi sorry for the unclear question guys,

let me make the question more clear
if I want to release shear for the column from resisting lateral load i will release the shear in the top of the column(below the beam in FE model)
So my question ,how to implement this in actual RC connection in the site,but still carrying resisting gravity load

Second,if I release the moment in the beam (make it simply supported), this will not prevent shear in the columns,and again how I will make this detail in the site


The reason for doing the second one is practical use, but the first one is only for my understanding.

In monolithic concrete construction, you don't release the moments at the the beam to column joints. You can do things like the mesnager hinge but that's not usually very practical.
