Can anybody summarize the differences between Blodgett's "Design of Weldments" and "Design of Welded Structures"?

Different areas of focus? Depth?

I wouldn't step foot in a building if I designed it. [smile] That's not, and never will be, my area. However, I sometimes need to design small welded "structures". Say, a machine base or a press frame or something to lift materials.

I'd like to improve in this area and add one or both Blodgett books to my library, but I'm having trouble pinning down the difference between them.

Weldments is surely for you. It's exactly the kind of stuff that you mentioned whereas Welded Structures speaks more to tradition building and bridge applications. Of course, these books are ridiculously cheap and I'd be inclined to just get both. Most of your cost will probably be shipping. Welded Structures contains more than enough first principle design info to justify the meager cost ten times over.

Excellent. That's exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate the answer.

I do agree, though. The books are refreshingly affordable through the Lincoln Foundation. Many thanks to them.

Thanks for the pictures. I like what I see, dog included.

You're welcome, and thanks, I'll tell her (but she's old and deaf).

Just FYI, get the books from the lincoln website, I've seen them on amazon, ebay, ... for much more than they originally go for. Crazy.

Solutions to Design of Weldments is also worthwhile (and cheap).
