Hi everyone, I'm wondering if someone will be able to help me with this flange issue. My question is whether a 1.5" DIN 2576 (slip-on welding) Flange is allowed to be used on an ASME VIII Div1 Pressure Vessel Nozzle. According to UG-44, only ASME B16.5 and B16.47 are acceptable for use under this division (as prefabricated or preformed flanges). So I was wondering if anyone know of an ASME Code Case that allows the use of the DIN Flanges on an ASME VIII Div1 vessel, or is the use of the DIN flange not permitted at all?

The material is your biggest problem. If you can find a way to certify the material to ASME (UG-10 is a possibility) then you plug the flange dimensions into Appendix II and prove it out. Assuming it is raised face. If it has an o-ring, you must use Appendix Y, and if it is flat faced, there are no ASME design rules, so you can design following U-2(g)(as safe as Code) with AI approval.

Probably not worth the effort unless removing/replacing flange is very expensive.
