Disadvantage of using Girt Joist in leu of Stl beams for perimeter framing

What , if any, are the disadvantages of using Girt joists for perimeter framing.
I've heard there are drag strut issues, not sure if thats related to the connnection between the perimeter stl deck and perimeter framing.
Also, has anyone used Girt joists to "make" CBF's. I've seem Girt joists baced with tension members, but I have not seem them used in compression!

I'd recommend you rephrase your question to clarify and repost on the "Structural Engineering other technical topics" board.
I suspect you have a good idea of your question, but it's not clear to anyone else.

When you repost, it would help to clarity what type of general framing system you are dealing with. The use of the word "Girt" suggests PEMB's, but I am not sure as a girt is not a joist.

I think he means as an eaves strut. I often used a beam section with a horizontal channel on the outboard side to line up with the rest of the girts. This was in industrial and power station buildings, not PEMBs. I can't see a joist used in this way, especially in a braced bay.
