Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a sensor to obtain small motions. These sensors will be installed on columns, for hence, any sensor which needs a reference state is off the table. The main idea is to catch the displacements generated by a rotatory equipment which is supported by these columns. I'm thinking in something like a seismograph.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hopefully micrometers for magnitude and accuracy on the same value order. Top price range usd$500-800.

I understand that inductive sensors have a lack of accuracy. Is there any kind of seismograph sensor?

If by posting here a sensor model is break the forum rule, please send me a PM. I will appreciate.

Thanks for your reply!

But I'm looking for displacements, the strain gage will give me strains only, right?. I though in using an accelerometer, since they do not need a reference frame. This for example will need a reference frame. The vecinity of columns/equipment is also vibrating, for hence this kind of solution (geogage sensor) will not be suitable.

IRstuff, we will need to make a hole in the baseplate to install that sensor? I think I'd not be allowed to do that.

Thanks to both for your help

Forgot to tell that, the trouble with the accelerometer is that I was not able to integrate the values in order to obtain velocity and displacement. Not to mention that the vertical motion has being influenced by gravity and we must apply filters. We obtained very strange results for sure.

No, you can put the target, if needed, on the column. If you look at page 9, the sensors can be purchased for ferromagnetic targets, so if it's a bare steel column, that's all you need. Otherwise, you would glue a small piece of iron on the column and put the sensor on some sort of holder, like a tripod with an arm

We only need to get the small displacements of columns generated by an equipment which is supported by them.

It is possible to get displacements from a vibration sensor ?

Thanks !
