In NX and NX2 when using the analysis distance function a toolbar allowing you to select point constructor, body, face etc would come up. Is there anything similar in NX3? In particular a way of selecting just faces?

Thanks

Selection Intent: Learn everything you can about it now.

Customize your toolbar options to show the toolbar icons and learn the functionality of each icon. There's so much to list on it, I'm not sure where to start... perhaps someone better suited will pipe in... *pokes John for his que*

Tools> customize> Toolbars> Selection> Selection Intent

I see it more as it's sort of a fundamental shift in how your logical intent is handled within UG... Your used to: 'command, intent' whereas now it's 'intent, command'; aka 'edit object display, pick object> type> faces' versus having 'face' set from your last op and then just picking the faces, edit object display'. Yeah, I know... Clear as mud? ;-)

Distance analysis uses the "Snap Point" toolbar. To select just faces, toggle off all the points on the snap point menu, you will then be left with edges, faces and bodies in your selection. I found that the Selection Intent menu grays out after selecting Distance Analysis.

BTW, I personally like the "Point on Curve" snap point when using distance on free form stuff where control points are not always available where you want them.

I haden't picked up on toggling off the points on the snap point menu.

Thank-you

When I ask for a distance and move my cursor over a face, it lights up. No problem getting a distance from a face to whatever.
Sometimes, when trying to get a distance from and edge, the default selection goes to a control point, end point, center point, etc., but, holding down the ALT key disables the point default and I can select the edge or face.

Good luck,
'ziner
