Does steam conduct sound well?

Thinking of using an ultrasonic flow meter to measure steam flow through a pipe to save some money but not sure how accurate the results would be as Google tells me they are primarily for liquids. Anyone know?

Sick makes ultrasonic flow meters specifically for steam. They work well.
