If the door were simply slide under the car then support beams could remain, so they could have the same structure we have today. Thats awesome!

By making the door slide into the car how are they keeping structural rigidity of the chassis? I think the idea is good.

How do you get out after a side impact? How well does it work with 6" of snow and ice on it? It is a clever idea but I'm just not seeing a commercially acceptable product.

I could possibly see it as being commercially acceptable, if a few things were done- first, it would have to deal with the ground clearance, which is difficult, but I think can be done, possibly by raising the floor of the car a bit. second, there would have to be some kind of emergency release, in case of accident. something to get the door off, easily, that won't be accidentally triggered by something else. something like an airbag release mechanism would probably work- release the door, deploy the airbags, and then your safe and you can get out easy (possibly even easier than in a normal car).
