Double Angle Designations

Hello. I am calling out a double angle as (2)-L6x3 1/2x5/16 (LLBB). If I want the angle oriented "long leg vertical" (LLV), is it necessary to add that to my call out or is it understood that LLBB is oriented with LLV?

To make this more clear, which one would be correct?:
(2)-L6x3 1/2x5/16 (LLBB) or
(2)-L6x3 1/2x5/16 (LLBB)(LLV)

I would normally spec (2)L6x3-1/2x5/16 LLV. I'm not familiar with the LLBB designation.

Dik,
LLBB means "Long Leg Back-to-Back," meaning the 6" leg of the angles would connect to each other. This is opposed to SLBB, "Short Leg Back-to-Back," where the 3½" legs would be connected.

For the original question, the LLBB is necessary to differentiate how the angles are attached to each other. I would think the global orientation would be depicted in a typical detail of this joint. If this is a vertical brace, typically the connected leg would be vertical, so the gap between the angles is occupied by a gusset plate at the ends. A simple detail would resolve this without question.

I've never seen LLBB used with LLV. When I've seen LLV, it's been for a single angle member.

Thank you both. After review, I am going to go with the LLBB and show a section with the legs oriented vertically. We normally don't show such sections because these angles are lintels and are scheduled; however, I think that a simple detail is the best way to clarify my design intent in this case.

Hmm, being lintels and not bracing members, maybe Dik's suggestion is best. Either way, a detail would be better still.

I have never seen nor used LLBB with lintel designations....always LLV. LLBB might be used with truss members, not lintels.
