From CBC - Residents of Edmonton condo building urged to evacuate over concerns of collapse

CBC said:
... the construction was "not the same as the engineered drawings on file and that the as-built conditions were under-designed to carry the structural load of the building."

As remediation work stemming from a significant fire (Global News) proceeded, it became apparent things were not as they should be.

OH!

From the pattern of diagonal cracks in the stucco, it appears things were already moving.

EDIT: The diagonal crack pattern may be an artifact from a video screen grab or shadow from the deck railing.

Likely not due to malice. We call our Building Inspectors 'Safety Codes Officers', and demand that they have extremely high-level qualifications like (and this is copied directly from their website): Journeyman carpenter, plumber, electrician, sheet metal worker or bricklayer certification recognized in Alberta and three (3) years of relevant experience* in the building construction industry after receiving that journeyman certification.

The biggest money in this City, aside from Big Oil, is the property developers.

There was a really nice puff piece written mere weeks before the Castledowns articles hit the newswire.

It looks like our hard-hitting local journalists managed to connect the dots, though.

The notes of the building inspector for this building might make interesting reading.

Again: public record

How many inspections were made? What type and when? What did the inspector see (and approve) in each of those inspections? What did the inspector reject?
