I am a mechanical engineer and live in Dallas, Texas area. I am looking for electrical system training courses that are offered for non electrical engineers in this area? University of Wisconsin in Madison offers great courses but it's too costly for me to travel and stay there for a few days.

This isn't really an HVAC question....but....what aspect of electrical systems would you like to learn? Would you please provide a bit more detail? I don't mean to sound glib, but in mechanical terms, I am asking if you are interested in statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, or materials? At the start would be something like circuit theory that teaches how to apply various techniques to analysis, which would be akin to a statics and dynamics course. If you're looking for a self study, the Art of Electronics is an excellent text from a class taught, if I recall correctly, at Harvard.

AoE isn't really an electrical text, it's electronics which is somewhat different to electrical. It's a great book - still one of my favourites even though it is very dated now - but it's not what you're looking for if you are interested in motors, starters, circuit breakers, wiring systems and the like. Can you be a bit more specific what you're hoping to study?

I apologize for not being more specific. I am in the MEP field. I like to have a good understating of commercial buildings' electrical systems. The link to the course I referred to in my first post is:

I hope it was okay to post this link on here.
Anyhow, it has the following description:

You’ll benefit as you:
• Gain a sound understanding of the design principles used to design electrical circuits in accordance with the applicable national safety and energy codes and standards
• Focus on relevant sections of the National Electrical Code
• Become more familiar with basic electrical circuits and circuit parameters
• Increase your knowledge of the methods used to design lighting and power distribution systems for voltages 600 volts and below

Topics

• Basic Electrical Concepts
• Utility Generation, Transmission, and Distribution
• Basic Design Philosophy
• Design Procedures
• Electrical Construction Materials
• Services
• Advanced Grounding and Power Quality Concepts

Audience

This course will benefit:
• Architects and non-electrical engineers
• Others responsible for the electrical and lighting systems in manufacturing plants and commercial and institutional buildings
• Plant engineers, electrical contractors, and utility engineers
• Individuals involved in the design or construction of electrical power systems but have not had a formal course in electrical power engineering

Anyway, I hope to find a similar course geographically closer or maybe even an online course, or books, online sourses for articles and such.
