Electronic transmission control 1

I've been wanting to put an electronic overdrive transmission (such as a 4l60e, 4l80e, E4OD, or AOD-E)in my car for a while, but I really don't want to pay $1000 for a stand-alone controller. So, I figure, why not make one? Since the company I work for currently designs and makes ECU's for fuel injection, I know I have the resources to make it happen. However, after a quick internet search, I wasn't able to turn up much info. I was thinking about buying a factory manual, before I spend $100+ per manual for each of the above transmissions, does anyone know if it will have enough info to get rolling on this project? Or, do you know of any other sources for info? There doesn't seem to be any trans equivalent of diy-efi.org, unfortunately.

If it were me doing this, I'd call TransGo and ask them about their "kit" to convert those trans. to mech./hyd/ control and forget the electronics.

As far as developing your own transmission controller.... To properly develop an engine controller, plan to spend at least as much time and effort as you would for an engine controller. If you plan on making your own, right off the bat you will be spending several hundred dollars for prototype circuit boards and components are quite expensive. That is assuming you have the time and ability to write code for an appropriate microprocessor, have a strong knowledge of automatic transmission function, have the ability to lay out a circuit board and have the ability to build a case among many other necessary abilities. My point being that to create your own transmission controller for personal purposes would make $500-1000 for an existing market solution a bargain to say the least.

I work for a fuel injection company, we develop our own ECU, so we are well aware of the manufacturing and development time. It would eventually be a released product similar to the link provided (stand-alone trans control), as well as built into our current ECU. However, our target price was half that of the PCS or similar products. None of us are transmission "experts", I admit, but since I originally posted we have learned quite a bit, and are not too far away from writing some code and making some prototypes to test our proposed routines. Sounds interesting, what ECU will your transmission controller be built into? If you can sell it for half that price and your ECU is comparably priced, I might be interested in your products. Do you have a website or contact info for your company?

We make our own ECU, comparable to the Holley Commander 950 in capability I would say (they've got a few things we don't, and we've got a few things they don't). I think our website is still out of date.
