Hi

I am trying to run a large model in NX Nastran Simcenter
I am getting the following error
EMA IS USED. INSUFFICIENT MEMORY SPECIFIED FOR EMAINC
INCREASE
THE MEMORY LIMIT BY 84745 MB FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE.

I am not sure where I would increase this value by.
Does anyone know how to do this ?

Dear Martin,
Reading the Simcenter Nastran User's Guide I see EMA ("Element Matrix Assembler" module) is used to generate stiffness (KGG), mass (MGG), damping (BGG), and structural damping (K4GG) matrices.
Increase the RAM memory devoted to run Simcenter Nastran using the MEM Nastran keyword and see if solution improves.
Do not devote more than 70% of physical RAM memory to Nastran, the default is 45%.
memory = 0.45*physical
Best regards,
Blas.

Dear Blas

Thank you for your advice.
Can I ask why you wouldn't increase the memory to more than 70% ?

Best regards
Carrie

Dear Carrie,
You can not devote all your RAM memory to run a Nastran job because the Windows Operating System will die, you need to let memory for OS + I/O operations of Nastran, then is reasonable no devote maximum 75% RAM memory.
Many years ago in the old times I remember to run NX NASTRAN jobs directly from the MS-DOS prompt, outside of NX or FEMAP to save RAM memory, now I have a powerful workstation with 128 GB of fast RAM memory, two ptofessional SSDs of 1 TB each, etc.. now we can run NASTRAN models with millions of nodes in a fraction of time, not problem.
In summary: save RAM memory closing all apps running in your system, and to save more RAM run the job from the command prompt, take a look to mi blog:

Best regards,
Blas.
