Hi there,

I think we all know catia has a very poor memory management... it was even since the old times, catia 4 had it too...

Is there any way to empty ("purge") the data from the memory without shutting catia off?

Let me explain what I'm trying to do, maybe you have better suggestions: two of us are working on 2 parts that should mate to each other. Obviously we will need common features that we'll both use in our design (a common sketch of the outer contour, for instance). We placed these common features in a separate file, published them and inserted them with link in each working file. Now, if any of us needs to modify any of these common features, the other one will have to restart catia in order to have the most recent version of the file... Could it be any way of "sharing" a file, similar with the way excel allows?

Thanks in advance...

Best regards,
Stely

Stely, try this out.

Create Product A
Create part - Common Data
Publish common geometry
Create Part A (you work on)
Create Part B (your partner works on)

You load up the assembly
In assembly design, RC (right click)Part B -- Components -- Unload. This will take your partners part out of memory.
Your partner loads the assembly
In assembly design, partner unloads your part and common data.
If you modify the common part, your partner RC in assembly design -- components -- load (Common Data)

When your partner saves double pick Part B - Save.
When you save - Double pick part - Save.

File permissions will help you with the read/write.

You can modify settings for selective load, I can get into that if you like.

Derek

Amazing, Derek... It works perfect!

Somehow I had the feeling that you were the one to come with a solution :) Excellent!

I have often thought to market it as poor man's smart team. Nevertheless it works for me.
