Energy in compaction tests

Dear all,
Does anybody know how to calculate energy per unit volume of soil induced in standard proctor compaction test. I know the amount of the energy but could not find out how to get that number. I need this information as I am compacting my soils using different number of blows, number of layers and different hammers. I would be glad if anybody can help me. Thanks a lot.

In practice you measure the optimum compaction as determined by a proctor test versus the actual compaction as measured in the field.

Usually there is a specification or code requirement for the actual dry density to be a percentage of the proctor.
