Lets say I have a sketch with hole pattern, each pattern mounts one workhead to turret lathe. Now lets say I have second sketch on surface of turret ring with points to locate and rotate pattern to align correctly. I do this for frist one, but then I need to drive the number of points (and copies of hole pattern) from table or equation or macro to have ring size number mean correct number of mounting locations (i.e. ring size number = ring OD and 0.75*number of locations.)

Can you access sketch pattern inputs from Equations or Design Table or Macro?

Can you do like:
sketched hole is concentric to other sketch point, and equation makes pattern of points so you have patterned holes?

In other cad I would make copies of sketches with LISP routine and put holes in that way but what to do now?

yes you can. Have you looked thru Help?

Sketch patterns are typically a pretty inefficient way of working in SolidWorks. You will be better served if you learn to work with feature patterns rather than sketch patterns. Sketch patterns probably fit better with your Autocad background, but feature patterns have more power and flexibility in Solidworks.

Equations driving feature patterns are easy to create. If you double click the feature, all the numbers from the pattern can be selected for use in an equation. If you just want to evenly space a number of features around an included angle, you don't need to write an equation for that. You can pattern patterns also.

Good luck.

dezignstuff,

I cannot get feature patterns to correspond to the correct location(s) and orientation(s). I would need to be able to perform a circular pattern and linear pattern simutaneously all driven from the equation like rotate angle = 360/n * ring size number & translate = PI*ring size number*SQRT(2). If I perform either pattern first, each instance of the pattern must be rotated or translated based upon the change performed on the previous instance. Any ideas to acomplish this?

ctopher,
Did you have a specific area of the help file in mind? I have read most of the sections of Design tables, Equations, Patterns, Table driven patterns, Sketches, and sketched patterns, prior to posting. I must have missed the section "How to make a simutaneous translating and rotating equation driven number of patterned features each of which angled about axis defined by number of two point sets whose quantites and locations are driven by equations." I also missed that button on the toolbar...

I think you will have to re-install Solidworks. Make sure your antivirus is turned off. Are you using a Solidworks approved card and drivers?
