Anyone encounter an error when renaming a sketch while in sketch?

70% of the time I will get an error and have to quit out and start all over again.

Using any of the NX3 releases (3.0.2.3, 3.0.3.2 and 3.0.4.2) it does this.

I've noticed from time to time that this happens. Haven't had the time to find out what might be causing it....then again, I thought that's what my $400/month in maintenance was for ;o)

Hah, so true.

Well we have more problems on top of that. NX will just crash out on anything. I clicked on the plot button and it crashed (Just beeps than closes out). Which I am convinced it's hardware issue on that (Sun Ultra 60 and Sun Blade 1500 and 2000). We have gone through 3 MP versions and still have this problem.

Since 8:00 AM, NX has crashed 3 times.

First time, clicked the plot button
Second time, trying to edit a dimension
Third time, clicked the export parasolid button

All three times it beeps, then just closes out.
Very frustrating.

This is part of the syslog from /var/tmp

Not sure if anyone, John perhaps, can make any sense of this and possibly lead me down the path to what needs fixing.

Justin,

If you want someone to make any sense of this, please contact GTAC and have them open an IR and have developement look at this to see what the problem is.

A question first, did this just start recently and if so, what's changed? Have you installed an update of NX, or made some changes to the OS of your workstations, etc? If you contact GTAC, make sure that you let them know if there have anything like that taking place recently.

I'd also suggest making sure that you have all, if any, of the O/S patches that UGS might have recommended since you're not running an Intel-based machine (Sun, correct?). You should be able to find this on the GTAC support site.

Every since we upgraded to NX 3.0 back in December we have had non-stop problems. Nothing changed on the hardware or OS side of things either. And my manager has updated to several MP's and still have issues/crashes.

Yes, but did he install the proper OS patches? These do NOT come as part of the NX update. And besides, if this has been going on since December, have you in those 10 months EVER contacted GTAC? If you haven't, then I wonder why you are expecting the people who post here to help you out instead?

Justin,

I used to run an HP UNIX box here about 7 to 10 years ago and we usually had to install at least one O/S patch every time we migrated to a new version of UG (ie from v16 to v17 might require an O/S patch).

As John pointed out, those have to be installed separate from the NX MRs and MPs because UGS doesn't maintain the O/S...that's left up to the O/S manufacturer to fix. However, UGS usually has any O/S patches that might be needed on the GTAC website/FTP for your convenience.

I agree with John in that you should probably get in touch with GTAC about these issues. I'd suggest making a list of the biggest problems (crashes, lock ups, etc.) first, then address the more minor problems later....you might migrate to a new version before the issues get fixed.

It would also be a good idea to subscribe to UGS' Software Field Bulletins so that all SFB's are emailed to you or someone in your company. That way, if a serious issue is encountered or an O/S patch comes out, you will know about it immediately via an email message from UGS.

Most of the time the software (NX) is getting the blame for the crashes, but now I think they are starting to see it's possibly the OS. After 3 updates and there's still no improvement you can't blame the Cad package and you have to start looking at other things.

I believe Tim, you got me a link of the patches a long time ago. I sent that on to the manager, but I don't think much came of that. I am going to have to do that again.

And for contacting GTAC, I am a contract employee and not certain I should call. I keep the management informed of the crashing (so do the other 2 NX guys).

Well thank you for the help and letting me rant. =)
