For Excel's XY scatter chart types, you can specify whether the defined points should be connected with hard line or smooth curves.

Does anyone know how Excel determines the intermediate (connector line) points?

Or does anyone know of a good reference that discusses that topic? And / or if it's possible to access that intermediate point information (with VBA or other)?

Thanks!

The CSpline2 spreadsheet you can download at that link has a ChartSpline function that will return x,y values at selected points along an XY chart line. There is also a link to the site where I took the underlying code from, published by Lori Miller.
