Hi all,

I am designing a gas distribution header, for a flare, with numerous holes connected to burners.
System operates around 20psi. Can i take exception to hydrotest under B31.3 - 345.1 (d) as system is open to atmosphere.
There are valves upstream to isolate the burners.
I need to install this in Alberta, and hence ABSA will be involved.

Is this not a category M fluid service?

Talk to ABSA. They are usually quite helpful and their opinion is the only one that matters in this case.

Based on your justification that it is open to atmosphere per B31.3 - 345.1 (d), it is likely that they would allow this exception, but sometimes they opt to be more conservative.

It is up to the owner to classify fluid service, but natural gas would normally not be category M.
