If you have an explosion proof receptacle, is it also waterproof.

I have a production facility where they are washing the walls with a high pressure nozzle. The walls have explosion proof receptacles on it, I assume that they would also be water tight?

The odds are in your favor that the receptacles are suitable for wet locations; however, it is still far from being a certainty and must be confirmed by the markings.

That may not be a good assumption. Many explosion-proof enclosures have no gaskets, but two machined surfaces. The idea is to provide a long enough gas passage that in the event of an explosion inside the enclosure, the exhaust will cool to below the ignition temperature of the explosive atmosphere outside the enclosure.

Years ago it was extremely difficult to find an enclosure dual-rated as explosion-proof and water-proof. Maybe things have changed - I haven't dealt with this from a long time.

Thank you both for your answers. I'll have to research what's on the walls.

Can you add waterproof (or at least water resistant) caps or covers?

Yes, but Raintight and wet location listings do not equal watertight, which requires a fire hose test. Which is exactly what the OP needs, based on the hose down requirement.

You'll notice that NEMA 4 is conspicuous in its absence.
