Extruding Projected Curve 1

I have a cylinder body in which I projected a sketch profile onto it. How can I get the projected curve to extrude (subtract) into the cylinder body and maintain the projected profile?

There is already a thread concerning this problem; however, I would like to know how to extrude the projected sketch in a way such that the newly created face of the extrusion is on a cylindrical path.

For further clarification: The extrusion would create a curved path which has an area that is the same as the area of the original projected sketch.

I have attached a very rough illustration, so please take a look if anything above is unclear.

Thank You.

What version of NX are you running?

For something like this, I would use the Synchronous Modeling function 'Offset Region'; selecting the area that you wish to 'extrude' using the selection intent rule, 'Region Boundary Faces', and in the 'Settings' section of the 'Offset Region' dialog set the 'Overflow Behavior' to 'Extend Cap Face', as I've done in the attached example.

Thanks you for your help, but there are a few problems.

I cannot select the area inside of the projected sketch by itself. I can only select the entire face of the cylinder.

Also, in the Offset Region dialog box, in the Face tab, under the Reference tab, I cannot change the Reference to Fixed, as is selected in the attached file.

Have you set the 'Face Rule' (in the Selection Bar) to 'Region Boundary Faces'?

As for the 'Reference' tab, that plays no role here whatsoever so just ignore it (the system sets that to 'Fixed', NOT the user).

Try deleting/suppressing the 'Offset Region' feature and then follow the exact workflow I described in my post above making sure that you've set both the 'Face Rule' and the 'Overflow Behavior' option as I've indicated.

I have been away for quite a while, but on my return I followed the directions given and accomplished the task.
Thank you for your help.
