FABRICATION OF A FITTING (WITH CRN)

We are fabricating a small fitting with CRN number under ASME SECTION VIII. I have never worked with ASME SECTION VIII and I was wondering that is there any requirement of getting the fabrication or testing witnessed by an ABSA/ASME inspector?

Maybe, if it is a pressure vessel registered as a category "H" fitting, as discussed in the article on page 4 of the ABSA Pressure News below:

Note that that article is from 2008, so requirements may have changed.

If it is not a pressure vessel registered as a category "H" fitting and you just used ASME BPVC Sec VIII as the design standard for another category of fitting, then probably not.

I recommend emailing ABSA to ask if you are unsure. They are working from home but still responding to emails (within 1 business day for the emails I've sent them in the last few weeks). You can find the contact info on their website - use the "General Inquiries" email if you aren't sure who to contact directly.
