Hey there, I am designing a metal building with a 3'-0" brick skirt around the perimeter. The first purlin on the building starts at 3'-9" from base. If I do 3'-0" brick skirt I am going to have to have the client install (2) extra z-purlins for the brick ties, is there anyway that I can fasten directly to the metal siding?? This is in South Carolina coastal area

Hard to offer any advice without a drawing or sketch showing exactly what it is you're trying to do.

but fastening anything meaningful to 26 gauge siding sounds pretty dodgy.

I appreciate your response NorthCivil

You can run the numbers, but I think you would find the siding is not stiff enough to support the brick. It actually may work the other way around, if the siding deflects in the wind, it may pull the brick with it.

We usually put in light gauge studs from the slab up to thirst girt. Here's a rudimentary sketch (haven't turned my drawing pad on yet this morning...)

Seems best idea is to lower the purlin, or raise the brick. Talk to the architect about this yet? Otherwise I would think you need infill like PhamENG shows.

Depending on your construction sequencing, it may make the most sense to install additional girts.
