"I Participated in a FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) for a centrifugal chilled water pump today. The tester relied on the VFD display reading to determine the RPM and kW of the motor during the test. From what I know, use a calibrated torque meter and tachometer for accuracy, and is it mandatory to get the approval from the consultant? I also noticed that the test data clearly indicates that flow will vary when the discharge valve is partially closed at different heads. Additionally, while checking the shutoff head, I observed that the valve isn't completely closed; around 230 GPM still passes through. I brought this up with the tester, and he mentioned that there's no requirement to fully close the valve. thank you in advance for your valuable response

What's 230 in relation to rated flow?

5% or less just means they're not stressing the pump too much.

What did the test spec say?
Is it an API 610 pump? Or some other code?

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Sorry for typing error. The flow is not 230 GPM, but approximately 10% of the rated flow, which equates to around 50 to 60 GPM. I'll be sure to share more details about the test specifications in an upcoming update."

@littleinch: the test code is ISO 9906 and HI-GRADE 3B. Thanks

It serves no need to test shut-off head,

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)
