Hello everyone
I am modeling a body flange using abaqus, as you know according to appendix XI there is rules for evaluation of bolted flange connection.
My question is, if we want to make this evaluation using FEM, is there any rules or method to be implemented? Or can we use XI criteria?

You should probably have prefaced you post with a note that you are referring to ASME Section III (Rules for Construction of Nuclear Facility Components), Appendices.

The Design-By-Analysis rules in Appendix XIII do not address the gasket sealing aspects, and frankly neither do the Rules in Appendix XI. If you are doing a design of a body flange, what is the purpose of doing DBA? What is in the rules in Appendix XI that you cannot comply with?

Thank you for reply
I want to check bearing stresses in contact area between bolt and flange face. It is body flange so i need to check theses stresses. Furthermore there are three stress categories (Sh, Sr,...) so i can check these stress with allowable values in appendix.

For nuclear service welded ring gasket is used (lip welded), style SR or SRL. See Gasket Handbook.
