I have to design by FEMA 356 approach following LDP.
I am Italian engeneer an usually use the EC8 approach.
Does exist a Design Handbook (with examples) coherent with FEMA356? ... or helpfull links
My problem is to combine the different actions (M, N and V)... using force controlled method or displaicement controlled method.

I hope you can help me...
thank you

I saw this note on a FEMA website:

Please note that FEMA 356 has been superseded by American Society of
Civil Engineers [ASCE] 41, Seismic Rehabilitation of Buildings.

Also - look here for 356:

FEMA 356

And here for ASCE 41:

ASCE 41-06

Thank you I know that but is a required of the client (this building will be built in US territory but in Asia).
But i'd like to find a book that explaines, with examples (a andbook), a FEMA or ASCE41-06 approach which permit to understand like evaluating an existing building.
Do you know some similar book ?
thank you

ieronimoyuri,

Here is a link to a webpage:

Try this website for a pdf file of the fiollowing publication:

NEHRP Recommended Provisions: Design Examples FEMA 451 - August 2006.

This is a fairly comprehensive set of examples for applying the seismic provisions in FEMA 450 (that is the update to FEMA 356.)

Caution: the examples in this book are a little hard to follow because they have two sets of references to the FEMA provisions, one set that refers to FEMA 356 and a second set of references that refer to FEMA 450.
