FEMAP: "By Face" selection of elements

Hello,

I'm a new user of FEMAP v10.3.1 and I would like to select plate elements "by face" like I do in Hypermesh (selecting one element of a face, hitting "by face" and then having all the elements of the face automatically selected).

On FEMAP I've found some kind of "by face" selection tool by following the path "entity selection > pick^", but I'm unable to select anything by using this function.

I would be grateful is someone could help me regarding that!

without looking at FeMap (i have used it, just not where i am right now) i think you can make a group by selecting elements by PID (for plates) and (expecting that the same PID is used for more elements than you want right now) then select the elements using a "picking box" ... if that's not clear look up the manual for methods to select entities (you're looking to pick all elements within a box drawn by the cursor).

have you tried the help desk ?
 
When you say, "by face" do you mean geometric face? If so, you can use "Method" selector in the select dialog box to "select by surface", then click on a surface. All elements associated with the surface will be selected. If your elements aren't associated with a surface, this won't work.

When you are in the element Entity Selection dialog, click on the Pick ^ button and select By Faces... and a second Entity Selection dialog appears. Select the general group of elements that includes the subset of elements you eventually want to end up with, and click OK. Then in the subsequent Face Selection dialog, click Adjacent Faces, and pick one of the desired element faces, and click OK. Back in the first Entity Selection dialog you can highlight what you've selected by clicking on the highlight button. If you are happy with the selection, click OK again.

Note that in the Face Select dialog there is an angle tolerance that controls what Femap considers to be the adjacent element plane from element to element. The default is 20 degrees, so if you want Femap to include elements around less acute angles in the model, but not right angles say, then set the tolerance to be something slightly less than 90 degrees.
