NX 5.0.4.1

What I'm looking to do is deploy a set of Global Templates but allow individual sites to utilize Local Templates.

How, if possible, do I get NX to load the Global Templates AND the Local Templates, if they (the local ones) exist ?

I do have the SITE and GROUP directories defined and I assumed I could put the PAX files in the Startup folders. When trying this though, I only see the Blank options in the dialog.

Or, should I be looking to make use of the UGII_TEMPLATE_DIR variable ?

Phil,

It depends on how the sites are set up. If they're physically separated and log into different servers but the templates do more or less the same thing then you could try giving each site different templates each with .PAX files to suit. That would be the simplest way.

If you're all on the one server and your thinking in terms of different projects or customers. Then you can script NX startup files differently for each group and have the environment variable for the template directory (you should probably keep the corresponding .PAX files in there too) point to a different directory for each site. I think that UGII_TEMPLATE_DIR sounds like the right one. For the startup files most people use a batch file.

Lastly if you do use pattern files for your drawings, then name them differently per project but keep them all together in one pattern directory. You don't have to do this but some people may work more than one project and opening drawings that call up no or wrong borders can be confusing.

Best Regards

Hudson,

All sites (each logs onto a different server) are configured identically, with the same directory structure. To start NX, they run a common batch file, which has the option to call a 'local' batch file for each specific site.

I will point UGII_TEMPLATE_DIR (defined in the common batch file) to a folder that exists on each server. Here will reside the global template files. Each site can then (if they want) re-point UGII_TEMPLATE_DIR to a different folder and create their own templates.

The issue is that they cannot now use the global templates as well as their own. Unless of course they copy my PAX files and edit them.

I was hoping there was someway that the PAX files would be combined. Similar to the way you have Site, Group and User DPV files.
