Hi experts,
I’m working on creating a pWPS and PQR for welding ASTM B148 C95800, and it’s my first time dealing with this material. Could you please suggest the best filler metal for the GTAW welding process?
Thanks a lot for your help!
I'd have thought welding on an aluminum bronze would be a no-go due to oxidation and burn-off of the aluminum content...but the copper.org site suggests it's weldable.
We contract our a lot of welding of NiBrAl and NiBrAlFe. From what I see, it welds a lot like cast aluminum. It's relatively ductile so it doesn't need much preheat or post heat. It does require a lot of heat due to thermal conductivity. Weld it with AC as you would aluminum.
However, OP is asking about aluminum bronze (no nickel). That might add a bit of challenge.
I don't think that PWHT is mandatory for this grade (I don't have the access to the books right now so I cannot confirm). We have one customer that requires PWHT for major repairs. Time and temperature are the same as the HT for the castings.
