Which kind of fittings are preferred for drainage pipes. I have two choices, one is fittings with mechanical seal and the other is fittings with solvent seal. i'm not sure which one to choose. can any one help me out.

Is this a plumbing system? If so, both pipe material and fittings have to be listed in the code. I would imagine a solvent seal type would be preferred.

This is a drainage system for a hospital. I'm not sure which one is better

That narrows it down a bit...

Standard plumbing drainage would be PVC or Cast Iron

If you are using PVC, then solvent fittings are the norm.

Typical cast iron fittings are not considered mechanical.

If you are wanting something special, like stainless steel or maybe even glass for acids or chemicals, then mechanical fittings would be appropriate.

The ones with the elastomeric fitting are for exterior drainage piping, not for interior.
