I am in need of guide lines on following.

1. Is design of welding neck flanges with full face gasket covered in ASME Sec VIII Div 1 or Div 2.

2. If not covered in the codes, how to design same.

3. Is such design acceptable for code construction.

Hello,
Appendix 2 is specific to ring type gasket. But may ask why do you require a full face gasket?

Detailing is a hobby,

DK44, there is a design method based on Taylor Forge Bulletin #45.

I'd think most software would implement this...

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Thank you SnTMan.
1. I understand that, for accurate, easy and firm location of gasket, full face gaskets of soft composition are used for low pressure applications.
2. Yes Taylor Forge Bulletin #45 gives the procedure.
3. PD 5500 also covers the design method.
4. But why ASME is not considering this deign into the code?

See Figure UG-34 sketch (p)
There are things in ASME and not in PD 5500

Dunno really, but the design is not as often used, and most software implements TF #45

1. No for VIII-1. (Assuming the full face gasket is used with flat faced flanges.)

2. U-2(g)(-c) using Taylor Forge Bulletin 45 and/or 502. Check with your AI to be sure that TF45/502 meets this code paragraph.

3. Yes, see #2 above

If this WNF will be bolted to a blind flange, see UG-34 and Fig. UG-34, sketch (p) for design requirements of such.
